The Wand is an anaesthetic delivery system for dentists, using a computer controlled local anaesthetic delivery system. It consists of a sterile disposable hand piece component and a computer control unit. The hand piece is a light, ergonomically pleasing pen-like handle, which is linked to a conventional anaesthetic cartridge with plastic micro-tubing. The pen-like grasp allows pinpoint placement of the needle and the rotational technique is important to eliminating needle deflection.

Because delivery is computer-controlled, the thumb is no longer used as with a conventional syringe, so strain on the hand is decreased, while tactile feel and comfort are increased. The computer unit is controlled with a foot pedal. Audible tones guide use. The system's computer-controlled ability to automatically deliver local anaesthetic at precise pressure regardless of tissue density and resistance results in a controlled, effective, and virtually pain-free and comfortable injection even in dense tissues such as the palate and periodontal ligament.
